Damn You James Cameron!

Is it just me or have you noticed that there are suddenly WAY too many movies coming out with the tagline "in 3D"? I blame James Cameron and the success of Avatar.
After that movie came out and was so successful we now have:
Step Up 3D
Toy Story 3D
Saw 3D
Piranha 3D
Megamind 3D
Jackass 3D

There may be even more, but I have stopped counting. I mean, seriously? What exactly is wrong with watching a movie in 2D again? I enjoy it. With my motion sickness, 3D makes me a little nauseous. I think we should protest and not see any movie that claims the 3D tagline.

What's your opinion on 3D? Love it/hate it? Enough already?

10 Reasons Girls will like New Moon

***Contains no spoilers as I don't want to ruin anything for you.***

  1. New Moon very closely followed the book...almost to a fault.
  2. Taylor Lautner without a shirt.
  3. Girls like sparkly things and Vampires are sparkly.
  4. Every gal secretly wishes that she'd be involved in a love triangle. Admit it.
  5. A soaking wet Taylor Lautner without a shirt.
  6. The wolf special effects were really awesome. They were pretty life-like.
  7. The scene where Bella, Jacob and Mike go to the movies is highly entertaining. Those of you who saw the movie know to what I'm referring to.
  8. I enjoyed meeting the Volturi. They were perfectly cast in my opinion.
  9. The courtyard scene was exactly as it was in my imagination.
  10. Did I mention Taylor? Shirtless? For most of the movie?

New Moon Will Have to Wait A Little Bit

Like many of my fellow Twilight junkies, I can't wait to see New Moon. Unfortunately, I'm working 12 hour shifts and won't be able to find time until Sunday. To tide me over I went to Jen Lancaster's site and read her version of New Moon.

Go there now. It's Hil-arious! If you're not already reading her blog, you should start.

Winner and G.I. Joe

Ok.
So I went to Random.org and let them pick a winner for my Free Stuff Friday.
The number it came up with was.....3!
That means that the winner is Misti! I know Misti IRL so this will save on postage. I'll get that bag to you ASAP!

So what else is new?
I went to see G.I. Joe today. The review I read was awful, but I tend to think that movie reviewers in general are pretentious. I think they secretly hate all movies. I mean, what the heck did they expect going to see a movie, based on a cartoon, called G.I.Joe? Shakespeare? Ummm....I don't think so. You should go expecting stuff to get blown the hell up and lots of ass kicking and special effects. Which there was.

My experience was enhanced by the little guy sitting behind me. He was about 5 or 6 years old and his raw enthusiasm was contagious. His exclamations of Awesome! and Suckers! along with double thumbs up and fist pumping were cracking me up.

That, I think, is a far better review than some stodgy old movie critic could ever supply.

Movie Madness Twilight Style

I am totally a 13 year old girl. As part of Jen's Movie Madness Weekend I'm posting about Twilight. My sister and I went to see it last night. I have to say, I was giddy. The books so consumed my life that I couldn't wait to see them on the big screen.
Here are some of my impressions: Warning! May contain spoilers! (or not, everyone's read the books)
  • I love the casting. I think everyone looked almost like I imagined it. Robert Pattinson is AWESOME as Edward. I think I may now have a little crush. He's very intense. And dreamy.
  • I realize books are hard to translate on screen, but I feel that some of the intensity of Bella and Edward's relationship got lost.
  • I think they should have played up the fact that Edward can read minds a little better. They kind of glossed over the whole thing. I feel it's important because that (and her scent) was what initially drew him to her....the fact that he couldn't read her mind. She was a mystery to him.
  • The book makes such a huge deal about everyone's excitement to Bella's first day. I didn't feel that from the movie.
  • I really enjoyed the end scene with James. It looked almost exactly like I imagined it would.
  • I was disappointed with the whole almost-smushed-by-a-van scene. It was over so fast...a little anticlimactic for me.
  • Can I just say? Edward playing the piano? What is it about a sexy man playing the piano that makes me want to change my undies! I LOVE it!
  • I think overall, the movie was over too soon. I wanted it to continue.
When I got home last night I was torn about whether I liked it or not. I must have because I dreamt about it. I guess I'll just have to go see it again to know for sure!

Too Much Time

This week, I watched August Rush nine times. Nine times! I can't help myself. I have the digital cable package where I get like 6 HBO's and it's on All. The. Time. And every time it's on, I have to watch it. I don't know why. I love the music ( I downloaded the soundtrack too, I know I'm a geek) and I especially love the ending. For any of you out there who haven't seen the movie, I won't ruin it but it's cute and the song at the end is gorgeous.
I have the perfect attention span for my movie channels. I will watch the same movie over, and over, and over again. HBO makes it easier because for example AR was on at 2pm on Channel 550. It's a 2 hour movie. When it was over, I waited a half hour and it was on Channel 551. It goes on like that all day just moving down a channel. One day I watched Sweet Home Alabama literally all day as if it was on a loop. Yep, I have THAT MUCH TIME on my hands. I need a baby already. Actually, when it's on all day long I tend to leave it on and only watch it in pieces. A little bit here, a little bit there. Clean my house, cook dinner, do homework in between.
Has anyone else seen this movie and did you feel the same as me? I'd be interested to know if I'm just crazy.

The Dark Knight

The BBQ this past weekend was fun, despite the rain I woke up to that morning. By the time of the party, things had pretty much dried up. I would have pictures of the event if I hadn't gotten distracted....by wine.
Lots of wine.
Riesling to be exact.
On Sunday, Spiderman and I went to see The Dark Knight. It was Wicked Awesome! In my opinion it might be the best Batman yet. It was very dark and kind of disturbing. I always thought that the Batman movies should be dark as it is a story about a vigilante. The previous films all had a campy feel with the over-the-top acting and bright colors. Chris Nolan creates a Gotham that seems more realistic. The characters less like "characters" and more relatable. Heath really should win a nomination for this one. I can see why this role disturbed him enough that he couldn't sleep. I had trouble sleeping and I only WATCHED it.
We HAD to go see it since it was my brother's Theatrical Debut! Not to ruin the movie for those of you that haven't seen it, but I'll show you a scene.Do you see my brother? Here: lets' zoom in on the bottom right corner.

He's the one in the hat.

Our movie experience would have been great if we hadn't been seated in a theatre with a GINORMOUS asshole who gave a very loud running commentary throughout the ENTIRE movie. It started with the previews where he told everyone whether he wanted to see each upcoming film. Then, every time Christian Bale would come on screen he'd shout "There's the Bat Man!" He would also shout "Awesome" every few minutes during the action sequences. Then he would explain the Batman backstory...like anyone doesn't know...or even wants to hear it from him. He also felt like pointing out several times (again, loudly for the whole theatre to hear) during all the exterior shots that they were in fact of Chicago and where exactly they were..."That's lower Wacker Drive"...."That's near the Sear's Tower"...."Did I mention this was in Chicago?"

I. Wanted. To. Kill. Him.

It took every ounce of restraint I could muster not to make a scene and tell him to shutthefuckupnoonewantstohearyourinanedrivel!

But I'm better now. Can you tell?

Fun At The Drive-In

We had a fabulous time. It did not rain (thank god) and actually could not have asked for better weather. It was warm, but there was a nice cool breeze. The movies were good, and you can see from the picture that we had a Prime spot.
I also had a nice candy feast. I came prepared.

Goin' To The Drive-In

Let me start this post by saying that working 5 days a week is for the birds. I am SO freakin' tired! I know my body will get used to this, but until it does....it sucks. Plus I only have tomorrow off and then I work Sun-Thurs. But then.....I get a 3 day weekend!!! I haven't had a three day weekend in FOREVER.
I want to take a nap a little later because Spiderman and I are going to the Drive-In tonight. (If it doesn't rain which looks iffy). We're going to see Get Smart and The Incredible Hulk. I used to love going to the drive-in when I was a kid. We always knew we were going when after dinner my mother would start popping popcorn and putting it in a brown paper bag. We'd get SO excited. Once, I even remember my mother let us wear our PJ's. We'd get there early before the movie started so we could play on the playground and watch the cartoons. A few times we were allowed to sit on the hood of the car. The things that impress little kids amazes me. I never went to the drive-in on a date though for 2 reasons.
1. My mother NEVER would have allowed it. She was strict like that.
2. The drive-in where I grew up closed when I was in High School.

You can imagine my excitement to find that where I live now has a drive-in and it's not that far from my house. I've only been there once, and it was a few years ago.
Maybe Spiderman and I will make out.

Hairspray

Last night I finally watched Hairspray that I had DVR'd. Here's what I thought:

1. Loved the music. I completely LOVE musicals.
2. Loved, loved, the dancing. It made me wish people danced all coordinated like that in real life.
3. The costumes and hair are awesome.
4. James Marsden is totally hot. As Corny Collins he can sing and he can move!
5. Michelle Pfieffer is a little evil in this movie. I liked that. Much better than her role in Grease 2--not that I'm knocking Grease 2 or anything even though it doesn't compare to the original.
6. I liked the political message about integration and accepting those who are different. I find it relevant considering we will probably have a black president very soon! (I hope.)
7. I completely underestimated just how creepy John Travolta is in a fat suit and drag.

Overall, really liked the movie. If you want to watch a fun, colorful, lighthearted musical go and rent it now!

Iron Man

This post is going to be short. I just came off 2 back to back 12 hour shifts with a terrible migraine. I mean terrible like I thought someone had replaced all my lights with strobe lights this morning ,they were pulsing so much.
Anyway...I wanted to tell you about my Cinimark movie experience...I know you all are waiting anxiously for it. Spiderman and I went out to dinner at Red Robin...yum and then to the movie. The theatre was nice and the movie was GREAT. When I first heard that Robert Downey Jr. was going to be Tony Stark I was like, Seriously? I mean, I Love Robert and all and he's a Fantastic actor....but...a superhero? Seriously?
He did a really great job. I was pleasantly surprised. Tony Stark is supposed to be a mechanical genius. He did such a good job that not only did I believe that he was this genius Tony, but also that maybe Robert is actually a genius as well. That is good acting. The movie itself won't win any Oscars, but it was a good time and had a nice sarcastic wit to it. I just might see it again. Or at least watch it several hundred times when it comes on my movie channels.
I didn't even mind (that much) when the movie was stopped about an hour into it because there was a TORNADO warning. Warning....that means they saw one touch down...and I'm a freak about tornadoes.

Popcorn and Junior Mints

One of my favorite things to do is go to the movies. I especially love going by myself. I usually go during the day, on a weekday. Usually I'm one of only a few people in the theatre. It's like a private showing. I love it!
This past fall, I went to the theatre on an afternoon like this. I think I was seeing "Penelope". Anyway....I sat in the middle seat in the middle row of the theatre. You know which row. The first one after the aisle...the one that separates the lower part from the raised balcony. It's perfect. You don't have to see over anyone's head, and you can put your feet up on the railing...if no one's looking. I had my Junior Mints (perfect movie food) and a nice carbonated beverage and was ready to watch the previews. (I get so caught up in the previews I often forget what I'm there to watch.) This little old lady walks into the theatre and guess where she sits? Yep. Right. Next. To. Me. I turned to her..."seriously? we're gonna have to fight for an armrest in an otherwise empty theatre?" Needless to say I moved over one seat.
So why am I sharing this with you? Because for a little over 2 years my cute little town has been without movie theatre. They tore the old one down and started to build a new Cineplex. For 2 years I've had to drive 20-30 minutes in either direction to see my movies. It's sad. I'm deprived. But no more.
Today the new Cinemark theatre opens and I'm going to christen it! I think we're going to see Iron Man. I can hardly wait!
