Balance

Now that I'm back at work I have a new appreciation for working mom's everywhere. How do they balance it all and work full time? Especially with the mommy guilt. I try to be the best wife/mother/worker/sister/daughter/friend I can be and it seems like I keep coming up short somewhere. How to give everyone a bit of my time so as not to feel neglected. And keep up with the day to day maintenance of life. Grocery shop, pay bills, do laundry, clean house....blog. I need to go to the health club more to work off this "baby" weight and that's a whole other hour away from Jack. Everything that takes me away from him makes me feel guilty. Especially on the days I work and don't get to see him all day.

It's a little overwhelming.

Any suggestions?

The best I can offer is that it gets easier, although I imagine it depends on how you feel about work. I know I couldn't be a SAHM - so I appreciate the balance working gives me; I just wish I could work maybe 3 or 4 days a week instead of 5.

That is the $64,000 question. It does get easier a they get older. Now that I'm a SAHM, I wonder all the time how I managed to get anything done. But, you just do.

My only advice is if bringing a sandwich every day will make room in your budget for a housekeeper, break out the bread. Help around the house would have made my life so much easier.

you hit the nail on the head....balance is the name of the game with this parenthood thing. a blog I love that I find helpful is The Happiest Mom. Don't let the title fool you....she does not condone "super mom" stereotype, but rather, "good enough" in all areas...cooking , cleaning, birthday parties, etc. Everything doesn't have to be perfect, good enough is a fine goal. I also try and let my actions reflect my priorities...should I play with Micah or mop? easy answer, and yes my floors are not nearly as clean as when I was childless, but my life is much fuller (also, the dog helps me clean!)
it does get easier, I promise

Wow, I don't know how you do it. I have no suggestions, only kudos for you. As you said, balance is key. The hard part is finding your own balance.
